My head, my transmission in my Silverado 1500 6 speed has had rough shifting since I bought it had 29,000 miles on it. It also has been looked at for the rough and they said it was normal now at 100,000 miles by train ships out of gear while driving and coming to an idle at random spots, took it into a train shop Westland transmission. They said I need all new transmission which I think this should've been fixed a long time ago with the rough shifting the recall and lawsuit needs to add the six speed trans to the eight speed intense speed that GM is officially getting served on.

V8Component Affected: Electrical System / Power Train (Transmission) / Engine Cooling & WiringDescription of the Safety Defect and Incident:While operating the vehicle, severe electrical degradation occurred due to a catastrophic failure of the factory body-to-chassis grounding system. Upon professional inspection by a certified mechanic, it was discovered that the primary ground wires had suffered extreme thermal degradation, with the mechanic stating that the wiring components "almost melted in his hands" upon physical touch.Because the vehicle's manufacturing-defective ground strap severely corroded and failed, the high-amperage electrical current redirected itself along an unintended path of least resistance: directly through the transmission shifting cables and internal wiring harnesses. This extreme electrical bypass caused extensive thermal damage, melted critical electrical insulation, and permanently fried the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and internal transmission components, causing total mechanical failure. Why this is a Critical Safety Hazard:Fire & Thermal Risk: The failure created an active thermal event under the hood. Electrical current reaching temperatures high enough to melt heavy-duty wiring harnesses poses an immediate vehicle fire risk while operating or parked.Sudden Loss of Propulsion: The electrical short directly compromises transmission communication, risking an uncommanded shift into neutral or total loss of motive power while driving at highway speeds, creating a severe crash hazard.Manufacturer Action / Request for Investigation:General Motors recently issued Customer Satisfaction Program #N252515590 specifically to address this exact "body-to-chassis ground strap corrosion" defect on 2019–2024 Silverados.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the low engine oil warning light illuminated. A month later, while driving 60 MPH, the transmission malfunctioned between 4th and 5th gear, either missing shifts or shifting erratically, accompanied by a severe vibration. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where technicians discovered a leaking engine oil cooling line while preparing to repair the transmission. The dealer confirmed the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure; however, the contact was informed that the VIN was excluded from Customer Satisfaction Program: N192220080.

Came off the parkway and came to a stop at a stop sign. As I attempted to accelerate forward the truck shuttered violently, did not move forward and then slammed into gear. As it slammed into gear it jerked forward. The force of the jerk pushed me back in the seat and caused the steering wheel to turn. About 100 yards later I came to a stop in traffic. As I attempted to accelerate the same incident occurred again. After the second incident anytime I same to a stop and attempted to accelerate forward the shutter was no longer present but the truck would not move at first and would then slam into gear and jerk violently. This would occur in drive and reverse. I brought it to the dealership and they diagnosed that it needed a transmission. The service writer even told me it bucked so hard while the technician was moving it that it almost put him through the steering wheel. The truck is currently having the transmission replaced at Greenbrook GMC. Estimated repair cost is $9400 plus taxes and fees. Can provide invoice and bill once repair is completed.

AFM causing engine tick. I am reporting a radiator failure on my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 equipped with the 6.2L V8. The vehicle developed an active coolant leak from the radiator assembly. The coolant reservoir level dropped significantly after normal driving, and coolant was visibly leaking and collecting underneath the vehicle. The truck initially began running warmer than normal, approximately 215–220°F, before the leak was fully identified. After topping the system with the correct DEX-COOL coolant, the coolant level continued to drop and an external leak became clearly visible. The vehicle was subsequently parked to avoid engine overheating or further damage. The original radiator carries GM part number 84152439. I have since been advised that the current GM replacement radiator is part number 85575815. I was also informed by GM dealership personnel that radiator failures involving this application are currently being investigated. My concern is that a sudden radiator failure can result in rapid coolant loss and overheating, potentially causing engine damage or vehicle disablement while driving. This is particularly concerning because the temperature gauge may initially remain near normal even while coolant is being lost. I am requesting that NHTSA review radiator failures on 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 models, particularly vehicles equipped with the 6.2L engine and heavy-duty/enhanced cooling package, to determine whether there is a pattern of premature radiator cracking, tank/seam failure, or other coolant-loss defects that warrant a safety investigation, service campaign, or recall.

The day after receiving the truck back after having the brand new engine installed the truck was not operating properly then gave me a bunch of warnings and then the brakes wouldn’t work and the steering wouldn’t work. I informed the dealership that installed the brand new engine and they had the truck towed back to their shop just to look at it for 3 days and proceed to tell me there was no issues they could find. Picked the truck back up just to have the same issue happen not even a month later. I was able to document the warnings and issues while they were happening and provided those to the dealership when we drop it off for the second time after getting a brand new $13k engine installed. If you would like the video I captured of the warnings I will happily send them.

I was driving my 2019 Chevy Silverado TrailBoss with 81,000 miles at 65MPH on I-80 East in Omaha, NE, when 3 warning lights came on. The first was the Service Parking Brake. The second was Service ESC. The final was a flashing Check Engine light. My truck started backfiring/misfiring, making a loud ticking noise, and running extremely rough. I was trying to merge off the interstate, but it was running so rough that it made it very difficult to do so safely. Eventually, I just had to finish going where I was headed and park it in the lot. I did some research and called my local shop. They said to stop driving immediately and have it towed to them for inspection. They used a diagnostic tool and diagnosed the issue as a DFM lifter failure. But they could not fix it there and recommended I take it to a different shop. I had it towed again, and they did their own diagnostics and have the same idea, but without taking the engine completely apart, they can't tell for sure. They want to charge me $1,250.00 to inspect it further. I called the dealer where I purchased the truck back in 2019 and am working with them on next steps. The last shop quoted me $7,800 repair if it is indeed the DFM lifters. Based on what I know, this is a known issue with these trucks. GM has an "Out of Warranty Policy Assistance" in place just for these know lifter issues. This is very concerning that GM hasn't done a recall on these parts as it has shown to be a safety issue when driving the vehicle in traffic on the interstate. I just hope that GM assists me with the repair costs because it is not guaranteed and I cannot afford $7,800 right now.

I am reporting a potential safety defect involving my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 Trail Boss (VIN [XXX]), currently at approximately 63,000 miles. My truck suddenly developed a rough idle, engine ticking, and a cylinder 3 misfire. The check engine, traction control, parking brake, and “Service ESC” warnings appeared. The transmission also began shifting extremely hard, at times feeling as though another vehicle had struck the truck from behind. The oil pressure gauge also stopped functioning. Due to these symptoms, I stopped driving the vehicle. A diagnostic scan produced P0303, P0449, P0498, P0499 and P0500. After replacing a failed cylinder 3 spark plug, the truck initially ran perfectly for approximately 20 minutes before the rough idle and warning lights returned. The vehicle was subsequently diagnosed by a Chevrolet dealership. The dealership determined that the engine suffered a collapsed lifter that damaged the camshaft and other internal engine components. The engine repair estimate is approximately $10,000–$12,000. The dealership has also reported that the transmission is slipping and believes the torque converter/transmission requires approximately another $6,300 in repairs. I am concerned that a lifter/DFM-related failure causing a misfire, rough running and potential loss of engine power could occur while a vehicle is traveling at highway speed and create a significant safety hazard. The severe transmission shifting and subsequent slipping are also concerning because unexpected vehicle behavior during acceleration or while in traffic could increase the risk of a crash. The truck has been regularly maintained and has relatively low mileage for its age. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether similar engine/lifter/DFM and related powertrain failures represent a broader safety defect and whether an investigation or recall is warranted. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transmission and drivetrain system appear to be defective. The vehicle repeatedly experiences hard shifting, transmission shudder, hesitation during acceleration, delayed engagement when shifting into gear, and erratic gear changes. These problems occur during normal driving and have progressively worsened over time. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The transmission hesitation and delayed acceleration create a serious safety hazard. When pulling into traffic, crossing intersections, or changing lanes, the vehicle does not respond immediately when the accelerator is pressed. The delay leaves the vehicle exposed to oncoming traffic and increases the risk of a collision. The hard shifting and shuddering also cause the vehicle to behave unpredictably, reducing driver confidence and making it unsafe to operate in normal traffic conditions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem is consistently reproducible during everyday driving. The transmission shudders, hesitates, and shifts harshly on a regular basis. Although the condition is intermittent in severity, it occurs frequently enough to create ongoing safety concerns. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. The vehicle remains available for inspection. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The first symptoms were occasional hard shifts and slight hesitation during acceleration. Over time, the condition worsened, progressing to severe shuddering, delayed acceleration, and increasingly harsh gear changes. No warning lights or diagnostic messages appeared when the symptoms first began, making it difficult to identify the problem before it be

I was driving the vehicle and suddenly there was a loss of power and a ticking noise. I was up to date with my oil changes per dealer recommendations. Had the vehicle towed to to Chevy dealer and they said they weren’t able to find what the problem is without further diagnosing. Further diagnosing was estimated to be about $2500. I had it towed to an independent shop, Viking Motorsports, to which the owner/mechanic tore down the engine and deemed it as bearing failure in my 6.2 L87. There was no warning whatsoever, just went from running to engine dead immediately. I proceeded to an engine change that has costed me approximately $15,000 and would like full reimbursement if not partial reimbursement from GM given that this is a known issue for the problem. I did not go with the Chevy Dealership for the job since they quoted me $20,000+ for the engine swap and realistically that wouldn’t make financial sense. I have a High Country and at 102,000 miles when the engine has failed. This has put me in such a financial bind.

I understand there is an investigation regarding a recall for 2019-2020 year vehicles. How I got the vehicle: I had previously bought a certified used Chevy Silverado 2016. It also had engine failure where it would shut off in the middle of driving. I repeatedly took it back to the dealership (different dealership) and they could not fix it; Instead had me test out another loaner vehicle for possible purchase. Driving off of the lot that loaner vehicle engine light came on. I took it back and they failed to mention to me that they dropped a new block into that one. After that I got another loaner vehicle that I was pigeonholed into purchasing as they could not figure out the issue with my previous purchase. 6 months later it started having electrical problems with rear cameras not working, sensors out, etc; Then eventually the engine failed. The amount of money I have spent and growing safety concerns I have for transporting my family and myself are beginning to grow. I do not want to incur subsequent mechanical failures/expenses in other areas due to previous engine failure.

I was camping at a state park outside of Kenton Ohio. On Sunday July 19 2026 while backing up my travel trailer I lost power steering to my 2019 Silverado 1500. then a message came on my display saying service power steering soon and then a check wiring harness warning. I turned off truck and restarted it and warnings cleared and power steering came back. The following morning July 20th started the truck, no power steering and service engine light was on drove to Kenton and had codes read. Had multiple codes for different control modules. Power steering came back and I was able to drive home. Called my dealer and was able to get appointment on July 24. Tried to start truck and it would crank, start run rough for a few seconds then stall out. Had to have it towed to dealer for repair. End result faulty ground strap from body to frame, loss of electric power steering ability while driving due to a ground cable could have been a very dangerous situation for everyone in the vehicle and on the road

    STEERING

I had a complete loss of steering and had to have the truck towed to the dealership. This could have caused a very serious accident. There was no previous warning - it just went out. The dealership charged me $2183 to replace the steering gear. According to the literature, the steering function should last to well past 100K miles (my truck had 66,552 miles on it). In addition, there are multiple reports of steering going out online - perhaps a recall is in order. The literature also states that if diagnostic code C1599 then the steering rack is completely fine mechanically but it has simply lost its electrical connection. That is the code that the dealership saw - it sounds like the fix could have been much simpler and cheaper.

    STEERING

Without prior warning my power steering went out. This could have been life threatening. I had to have it towed to the dealership (Voss Chevy, Centerville OH). The truck had 66,552 miles on it and the extended warranty that we purchased thru Voss expired on 26 Mar 2026 and although we were under the 75K mileage, they would not honor it (planned obsolescence?) So they replaced the steering gear for $2183. After researching, the literature says that diagnostic code C1599 (which is what Voss saw) indicated that the steering rack is completely fine mechanically but it has simply lost its electrical connection. In addition, literature says that a steering rack should last at least to 100K miles. There are also multiple issues documented on carcomplaints.com regarding the loss of power steering. Perhaps a recall is needed. In addition, I believe we were mislead as to what repairs were needed.

    SERVICE BRAKES

In September 2004, I filed a complaint on my 2019 chevrolet Silverado was making a noise from under the steering wheel (like a click noise at least twice) also the brakes were changing the movement when I pressed the brakes. One night the brakes completely went out while driving at 55 mph. I tried everything from pumping hard but the pedal went all the way to the floor with no result. I related the gas until the vehicle came to a stop. From there I placed the vehicle on park in the middle of an intersection. When the traffic light turned green I placed the vehicle on D and it moved but still with no brakes. I parked on the side of the road and called a wrecker to tow my truck home. It was could not be driven. After filling a complaint the local dealership called me and fixed it free of charge. Last week the noise on the steering wheel came back and the brakes are acting funny again. I have my two daughters ages [XXX] and [XXX] in my truck and I am requesting another inspection to my vehicle before another accident can happen. ENGINE

While driving, my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L V8 suddenly lost engine power approximately a quarter mile from my home. The vehicle has only 35,000 miles. A check engine light indicated a misfire, and I confirmed cylinder 7 was misfiring. I replaced the spark plug, plug wire, and coil pack, but the misfire continued. The dealership diagnosed a failed lifter in the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system and is disassembling the engine to assess further damage. This matches the widely documented AFM lifter failure pattern in GM 5.3L V8 engines. The sudden loss of motive power while driving created a safety hazard. All maintenance was performed at GM dealerships.
