In Nov 2020, we had a Ram recall repair for the EGR Cooler/VB1. This was a safety issue that could potentially cause the truck to catch on fire. Nov 2026, we are getting a code for the same issue with our VB1 egr cooler valve. We've contacted Ram and have an email stating that our repair is out of warranty since it's been over 2 years since the repair was completed. Since this was a safety recall and not a standard recall, there is no 2 year warranty time frame. Ram is refusing to repair at their expense.

STEERING

ELECTRIC STEERING RACK FAILURE. The truck requires tremendous strength to steer manually, risking accident and injury to passengers and other vehicles. Emmett's Auto in Klamath Falls, OR has ordered a new steering rack. RAM Corporate advised the truck is not on recall. Other trucks manufactured the same year have the recall for the same defect. A "service steering soon" message appears in the message center of the truck. Local dealer, Lithia Auto received 18 new steering racks which were already promised to other repairs. This indicates to me that this is a widespread problem and the recall should have involved my vehicle.

I am writing to file a formal safety complaint regarding a widespread defect in the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) on my 2016 Ram 1500. The ABS system on my vehicle has suffered an internal failure, resulting in an active ABS dashboard warning light, total loss of traction control, and immediate electronic disabling of both the cruise control system and the four-wheel drive (4WD) system. Disabling ABS and the 4WD system leaves the vehicle unable to adapt to hazardous road or weather conditions, creating a significant safety risk. This exact failure pattern mimics identical ABS defects that parent company Stellantis/FCA has previously recalled on heavier-duty Ram platforms (such as NHTSA Recall 24V-896), but the 2016 half-ton models have not yet been included in a mandatory remedy campaign. I request that this issue be documented and investigated as a potential safety defect requiring expanded remedy coverage.

The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, the electronic power steering became inoperable, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn and was almost impossible to turn. The contact stated that on the previous day, the power steering warning light was illuminated momentarily. The contact stated that an independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and retrieved DTC: C2217-00 (internal electronic power steering module failure). The contact associated the failure with NHTSA investigation RQ23-033. The dealer was contacted by phone. The failure mileage was approximately 138,210.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On [XXX], I experienced a severe safety failure regarding the fuel tank support on my 2016 Ram 1500 (VIN: [XXX]). I was driving on public roads under normal conditions and stopped at a store for grocery shopping. While parked, a bystander alerted me that my gas tank was physically hanging down from underneath the vehicle. Upon inspection, I found that the metal fuel tank strap had completely broken off due to corrosion, leaving the heavy fuel tank unsupported and at high risk of dropping onto the road. Because the vehicle was unsafe to leave as-is, I had to rig a temporary strap harness under the truck to hold the tank up just enough to carefully limp the vehicle home. This sudden structural failure presents a massive fire and road hazard. Upon contacting my local Ram/Chrysler dealership, I was informed that there is no active recall covering my specific vehicle. However, after researching the issue on automotive forums and Facebook owner groups, I discovered this is a widespread and well-documented defect among Ram 1500 owners. While some older models received a formal recall (Recall U04) for this exact issue, many owners of newer models like mine are being left without assistance, forcing them to pay out-of-pocket at independent mechanics or attempt DIY repairs on a critical safety component. The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 50 MPH, several warning lights illuminated and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with high-pressure fuel pump failure. The contact was informed that the fuel system was contaminated with metal shavings. The contact was informed that the high-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) in May 2024. The dealer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. In addition, the contact stated that several cases were filed. The contact was advised to contact the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.

Brakes, ABS , shift sensor, in drive and would not move had to turn off in heavy traffic and then put in Drive and would go for a while, leveling off, every light was in a rolling script on my dash! Finally got to place that I could park it.Finally was able to get someone to get it home. 1 hour away. My husband is [XXX] and has dementia, can hardly walk. I am [XXX] and am responsible caregiver to him. We were in getting off work traffic when this was going on…Yes my vehicle is available to be seen. I can not drive it for fear of happening again and causing more trouble. Yes we were surely in danger as so were others in traffic. Yes has been confirmed by dealership and other mechanics. Everyone says they do not have the modular to fix it and have no idea when it might come in! I owe 1500.00 on this vechicle and have been very pleased with it. Even with getting recalls fixed. But now we have this very nice truck that we can’t drive, or trade or sale! Our other vehicle is a 2007 FJ Cruiser and has 335,000 miles on it. Bought it new and have had no problems with it. Just a little Leary for us to start out to dr. Appointments or whatever else comes up, I had always felt safe in our truck, but now I am afraid to drive out of driveway. We were told if that had part to fix it , it would be 1600.00 dollars to fix. We live on fixed income and this has caused us much despair. I was not aware of trouble with this problem until now. The vehicle was taken to a brake specialist to be diagnosed and it was determined that the ABS module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part was on a national back order. The dealer and the manufacturer were contacted and confirmed that the part was on backorder, with no estimated time of availability. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

On my son's 2016 Dodge Ram 1500, he was driving and as he was turning into a gas station, his Electronic Power Steering (EPS) stopped working and he had to use much force to turn the wheel into the gas station. The steering wheel warning light came up on his dash and after several attempts of turning off/turning on the engine and removing the battery cables and putting them back, the EPS would not come back on. We did check the fuse from the positive battery terminal with a multimeter and the cable to the EPS still had power, to include fuse 78 in the fuse box. We check the wire under the engine to the EPS and found no issues with the wires.

The electronic power steering has failed. The system failed on 10/19/26. Also, the truck has stalled while driving on three different occasions in the last two years. It has never shown a code for the stalls.

The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and attempting to drive, the vehicle failed to accelerate, and multiple warning lights, including the check engine warning light, illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle felt sluggish while driving and failed to accelerate beyond 60 MPH. The contact also stated that a burning smell was noticed coming from the rear filter of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the diesel particulate filter (DPF) and emissions system failed and required replacement. A dealer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that the failure was previously associated with a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.

ABS Control Module stopped working ,leaving traction control and anti lock brakes inoperable. Parts are not available from dealers or after market manufacturers. This has been an on going problem with multiple year vehicles.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Component or System Failed & Availability for Inspection: High-pressure fuel pump and common rail fuel injection system under NHTSA Recall 22V-406 (Recall Z46). The vehicle and all removed/affected components are grounded and available for inspection at Peterson CDJR in Boise, ID under Repair Order #46751.  Safety Risk: Risk of sudden loss of motive power and engine stall while driving, creating collision hazards as defined under NHTSA Recall 22V-406. Chronological Timeline & Dealer Findings: July 5, 2024: Peterson CDJR performed Safety Recall Z46 (NHTSA 22V-406) Procedure A, replacing only the high-pressure fuel pump. September 2026 (RO #45520): Vehicle presented with an illuminated check engine light. Peterson CDJR diagnosed a faulty fuel pressure sensor and replaced the fuel rail and sensor for $2,809.45.  September 2026 (RO #46751): Following a 55-mile test drive, Peterson CDJR technician verified the diesel fuel from the fuel tank tested completely clean. Inspection of the newly installed fuel rail sensor documented internal metallic debris actively circulating through the fuel system.  September–October 2026: Peterson CDJR opened STAR Case #102997574. DealerCONNECT records and the technician notes from RO #45520 state that the entire fuel system requires replacement. Dealer requested authorization for Recall Z46 Procedure B (complete fuel system replacement kit ⁠CSSMZ46DAA⁠).  October 5, 2026: Stellantis corporate documented via DealerCONNECT that the fuel system requires replacement, but stated they will not authorize the repair under warranty because the recall was previously closed.  Inspections by Manufacturer / Others: Inspected by Peterson CDJR certified technicians and documented in STAR Case #102997574. Reviewed via DealerCONNECT by Stellantis corporate, who confirmed fuel system failure but refused remedy coverage under open Corporate Case #98257662.  I have not had followup from my Stellantis case manager. Dealer is responsive.

SERVICE BRAKES

ABS and Brake lights on dash since October of 2024. No module available from any MOPAR source for a year. Had accident in July 2025. Truck slid as ABS did not engage which was direct cause of the accident resulting in damage to both vehicles. I have followed up monthly as to the availably and they continue to be on backorder and for a year it was showing Stellantis was investigating issue. Apparently this has been an ongoing safety issue that has not been address as a recall.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING · FUEL SYSTEM · DIESEL

The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the messages "Service Emissions Control" and "Exhaust Filter 100 Percent Full - Service Required - See Dealer" were displayed, and there was a strong fuel odor coming through the vents while idling or while driving. Additionally, while attempting to refuel the vehicle at the gas station, fuel splashed out and the vehicle could not be refueled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone and initially informed the contact that the vehicle was still covered under Emission Recall Number: V08 and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) and Emission Recall Number: V08; however, the contact was informed that the manufacturer had not approved the recall repairs. The contact called the manufacturer was advised that she would receive a call back from a supervisor; however, the contact had not been contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

SUSPENSION

After driving approximately 30-45 minutes a message on the dashboard showed up saying "Immediate Air Suspension Service/Repair Required". The suspension locked up at this point. Driving down the interstate at speeds of 70 mph was not safe for the vehicle or the occupants. This problem was addressed by a licensed Ram mechanic/dealership and determined the compressor was bad as it had stored codes for overheating. A new compressor was added. A week later the same message appeared. A deeper dive was done to look for causes, and nothing could be determined. This has occurred a total of three times.

I hit a tree head on dodging a deer going between 35 and 40mph and none of my air bags deployed.

STEERING

Driving down residential street and steering got stiff . Not safe at all . Message on screen power steering service. 2 mechanics said to would need to replace complete electric power steering gear assembly.

Rack and pinion has failed after 10 years. Luckily it went out a my wife was getting home. I've had a mechanic verify that it has failed completely and I am in the process of getting a new one.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I took my truck in to get the front end looked at and this local garage inspects the vehicle. They informed me the gas tank brackets and straps have corroded so bad that the gas tank is sagging and how serious it would be if it fell more or fell off completely. Obviously the gas tank falling off and possible exploding or catching fire is a serious safety issue. Upon my own research, there is a safety recall (U04) that did not include my specific truck for unknown reasons. Then upon further digging I found a safety warranty extension (X75) attached to my vehicle. When I took it in to get inspected and fixed, the dealership informed me this is a Canadian truck and they could not fix it under this X75 warranty extension. This truck was built in [XXX] and I purchased it used in [XXX] so I am not sure why the Canadian part has anything to do with this truck. The warranty extension letter even states unlimited miles and it doesn't matter if I am the original owner or not. The ABS module has failed. This ABS module failure is producing the following codes: The failure code in the ABS module is C2200–49 indicating a internal module failure when the ABS module goes off-line it sets communication codes in other modules, causing the transmission module to go into limp mode. This has been confirmed by an independent service center. There are multiple warning lights on the dashboard including the ABS light, the traction light, and the brake light. This failure is causing multiple failure codes and no communication within the engine. Please see attached pictures and documentation from garage.

The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while pulling out of the garage and onto the driveway, the steering wheel seized, and the message "Power Steering Needs to Be Serviced" was displayed. The contact turned off the vehicle. Upon restarting the vehicle the following day, the steering wheel operated as intended, and the contact slowly drove to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the steering rack and pinion had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering); however, the repair was not covered because the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired at the owner's expense. The manufacturer, RAM, was notified of the failure via website and by phone, and a case was filed. The contact was informed that no assistance would be provided and was referred to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 13,800.

The ABS warning light,electronic stability/traction control warning light, and red Brake warning light are illuminated simultaneously on the instrument cluster. The combination of these warning lights concerns me because it appears to indicate a failure or malfunction involving the ABS/brake-control system. I am concerned that ABS, electronic stability control, and traction control functions may not operate properly during an emergency breaking or loss-of-traction event. I understand that owners of 2016 1500 vehicles have reported similar combinations of ABS, traction control ,and brake warning lights and have reported ABS-module failures. I am requesting that NHTSA document and investigate this condition as a potential safety defect affecting 2016 Ram 1500 vehicles. I would like this complaint associated with my VIN and mileagefor purposes of identifying any trend involving ABS-module or brake-system failures. I have photographs showing the warning lights illuminated on my vehicle.

ABS Contol module failure, highly known and documented issue with the ram 1500's. Mine is a 2016 with the 5.7L. Showing ABS code C2200-49. Parts are no where to be found and it is now impossible to have the module rebuilt due to Chrysler no longer producing the hardware. I have a very expensive paper weight sitting in my driveway!

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

It appears to be a fuel leak. The incident happened less than 200 miles after having a dealer perform the NHTSA recall 22V-406, FCA recall Z46. The truck caught fire while pulling a travel trailer. The only way we were aware of it was a passing motorist saw flames shooting out from under the right side. As soon as we pulled over the truck immediately filled with smoke and the fire spread as the fuel puddled below the truck. Chrysler sent an inspector to look at the truck, not enough of the engine, passenger cabin, or front of the truck was left to make a conclusive cause. There was no indication we had an issue and if not for the fortunate timing of the passing motorist this could have turned out much worse. I was relating this story in a restaurant to my nephew when a passing waiter asked if it was a ECO diesel and I said yes, he related his story which was identical including the recall. I attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher we kept in the truck but it was too big by the time we pulled over. We were traveling at less than 50MPH stop and go traffic which had just started moving.

SERVICE BRAKES

Anti-Lock Brake Module Internal Failure - Code C2200-49 The truck ABS does not work, tractions control is disabled, and Cruise Control does not work. There were no lights or warning until the day I went to start the vehicle and then the abs, traction control, and brake light came on and stayed on once the truck was started. With researching this issue, it seems to be a widely known issue for several year trucks and parts to repair the ABS module are no made any longer. Calling the dealer the replacement part, which from what I read has been redesigned and is on an unknown backorder timeline. The cost for the part and labor is very high. From what I have read there was a TSB/Recall on some 2017 and newer ram trucks. I have not been able to determine if this is the same ABS module that is being used for the replacements in the older rams trucks. The truck without ABS and traction control is dangerous. I was on the highway and traffic came to an abrupt stop and when I applied the brakes my rear tires started to lock up. Luckily I am a defensive natured driver and was able to keep control of the vehicle and adjust my braking pressure and move towards the burm of the highway. In rainy conditions and others, it is going to be scary as well as trying to drive with wet/icy roads with no traction control it is not optimal.

When I go to put my vehicle in reverse sometimes the camera does not appear if it does it has multicolored lines coming through it or it's really fuzzy staticky looking and I have a 2016 ram hemi sport and it keeps happening every so often especially when it rains or snow

I brought my 2016 RAM into MAACO to repaint the chipped roof and repair a minor dent in the front right fender. When I brought it in, the "Change Oil" light came on, no other warning indicators on the dash. When I picked up my truck, the ABS, ESC, and Brake warning indicators were lit. I plugged in my innova 5610 and it showed DTC C2200-49. Safety is at risk here in Jacksonville, Florida during frequent thunderstorms and heavy rain on the highway. The ABS can be a critical life safer. I contacted the dealer for parts and they told me the ABS controller is backorder about 48 months. My internet search revealed that there are a lot of ABS issues and no one is making new modules.

ABS module failed causing ABS, traction control, and cruise control to stop functioning along with intermittent loss of power steering. Contacted multiple dealers which all stated the part is no longer available and no replacement part. This was a nuisance for two years until I towed a trailer and was merging onto an interstate when I lost traction due to wet roads and no traction control. Vehicle and trailer fishtailed and I was barely able to gain control without contacting any other vehicles on the very busy interstate. I was able to find a rebuilt abs module on eBay for $1100 that I installed and corrected the issue. This year model needs to be added to the existing recall that has been posted for many other years for this exact issue

The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at speeds under 25 MPH and turning, the steering wheel locked up. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed, and the steering wheel was held firmly until the steering wheel released. The contact stated that on another occasion while the vehicle was parked, the power-steering warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to drive the vehicle, but the steering wheel was stiff, and the contact was unable to drive any further. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the steering rack and pinion, steering gear, and linkage, AUX coolant pump, and driver's seat airbag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact believed that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V812000 (Steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,000.

ABS control module has failed and the vehicle cannot shift into gear and will not move. Dealership verified failure and the part is on 2 to 3 year back order. Part also apparently cannot be repaired by a 3rd party due to the chips no longer being manufactured. Only way to repair and make the vehicle "operable" is to purchase a "used" module from another donor vehicle which is also suspect and potentially unsafe. A recall needs to be instituted to protect the safety of the public and vehicle owners. RAM and its owner Stellantis need to be held accountable.

ABS warning light, traction control light and brake light are illuminated. Code reader indicates C2200-49, U0415 and U0147. ABS module needs to be replaced, however Mopar does not have and will not have the part available. Explored having the module rebuilt, however I found out that cannot happen as the chip that is needed is no longer available, thus the same reason why new replacements are not available. Called Mopar customer service and was given the run around to take it to the dealer. First of all it’s out of warranty, second the dealer can’t fix it anyway as the part is not available. This is a serious safety issue as the ABS is inoperable, the truck should not be driven and Mopar refuses to assist in a remedy.

I suddenly lost the power steering when I spoke to my mechanic he said the problem was intermittent and he has to replace a computer part that’s associated with it and had to replace the entire unit I saw there was an open recall regarding this matter

The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 80 MPH, the towing suddenly failed. The contact was able to drive off the exit. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The contact stated that the week before, while idling at a stop light, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the contact cleared the code before restarting the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a tone wheel failure. The failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact learned that the vehicle was included in a recall in 2019, and the fix included updating the powertrain control module software. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that the repair was no longer covered under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 167,000.

“Service ABS System”, “Service Electronic Braking System” and Traction Control warnings keep randomly occurring. Replacement ABS module is unavailable for this extremely widespread issue. Has anyone discussed a class action lawsuit for this issue? I’ve never had more problems with a vehicle than I’ve had with this truck. Ram should be embarrassed. I’ll be trading it in soon and I’ll never buy another one, that’s for sure.

The brake module that has been recalled on other Ram trucks has failed in the listed 2016 Ram 1500. We have tried multiple times to get it replaced at the dealership however, because this vehicle doesn’t fall under the recall we have been on a waiting list for nearly 3 years. Due to this safety issue we are unable to tow our camper safely. Additionally, we are also unable to sell the vehicle at its actual value. This vehicle needs to be included in the already existing recall as it’s having the same issues that are already included in a recall.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM · SERVICE BRAKES · FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The dealership said I need my ABS module replaced due to the lights on the dashboard and my ABS braking system and cruise control not working. I had them order the module and paid for it. I finally asked for a refund. where it has been on backorder for 18 months as of 8/13/2026, with no idea of when it will come in if it comes in at all. This is an extremely disturbing situation and safety issue of not having the anti-braking system in operative.

We can not go with our our vehicle for this long. We are willing to get it fixed but this back order has made it impossible to do so.
